This honour, presented through the Andrew Thompson Award by West Coast Environmental Law, celebrates Ruben’s outstanding contribution to environmental protection and sustainability in British Columbia through the law.
About the Award
The Youth Changemakers recognition highlights the leadership of young people aged 16–35 who are shaping the future of environmental justice in B.C. Honourees are celebrated not only for their current impact, but also for their bold and hopeful visions for how strong Canadian and Indigenous laws can support healthier, more resilient communities and ecosystems.
Ruben’s Vision
Ruben’s work is rooted in a powerful vision of hope and collective responsibility. He envisions: “…people coming together and supporting each other, promoting Indigenous laws and communities and learning from them, ‘decolonizing’ our worldviews and European legal traditions, and building something that allows our society to exist sustainably and peacefully in the world.”
His vision reflects a deep commitment to collaboration, legal transformation, and Indigenous knowledge as essential foundations for environmental justice.
